Why would someone do this?

These two listings are the remains of two cannibalized Steinberger Synapse 5ers. The only reason can see for taking apart these basses [about $1200 each] is a structural problem with the neck.

This is a Steinberger Synapse XS15FPAAW five string electric project bass guitar. This guitar does not have any hardware or electronics and we cannot see any physical issues with the guitar other than some minor scuffs in the finish. We do not know if the truss rod is bad, our supplier did not leave any notes indicating the issues. Nice item for the luthier. Please check our other auctions for more luthier, guitar and percussion items. L012215 N

Shouldn't the ebay seller here ask "their supplier" what the problem is?

These are factory rejects-they were never finished. The problems are listed as being finish defects on the black one, and a lifting fingerboard on the green one. If you don't like it they have a 7 day return policy.

OK, I remember reading about the fingerboard [green one] several days ago, but on the black one, a minor scuff couldn't have been buffed? Perhaps I'm being over cautious.

One would have to have a line on a Synapse bridge and other parts in order to dive into this thing I suppose. Hmmmm... perhaps another Steinie type bride could be substituted, but what about the headpiece? Would i have to go to Ed Roman?

Here's bassist Sean O’Bryan Smith sounding nice using a Steinberger Synapse 4 string.

Yeah, I've seen that. He's good. And he's going on the road with one of those all bass shows:

Our friend Sean O'Bryan Smith has teamed forces with two other heavyweight bassists to form The LOW Show. The LOW Show is designed to feature various bass players from various parts of the industry in a night of shear sonic thunder. To round out the lineup for the maiden voyage, Sean has partnered up with the incomparable Bryan Beller (Steve Vai, Dethklok) and bass virtuoso Adam Nitti (Steven Curtis Chapman, Dave Weckl). The trio's first show will be at The Rutledge in Nashville, TN on February 20th. Do not miss this venture by three of the music industry’s highest regarded bassists. Details and more information including other cities and shows can be found at myspace.com/seanobryansmith... and while you are there, be sure and check out Sean's cool version of "Let It Snow".

I might have to check that out.

Too bad I don't live in Chicago. :(jams?

You don't want to be in Chicago now :)

Will you be doing original compositions? Covers/Standards? Free jams?

I can't speak for the other guys but I'll be doing original pieces with my trio.

Doug Johns and Will Harris is also scheduled to be on the bill as well.
