Well aesthetically I see the connection, though it wasn't the aesthetics that make me think dj / car audio boomin system mentality.
I had a friend who's dad worked for Sony and he had those speakers...
But for a bass amp? I don't imagine that having much punch, and it won't handle much power. Maybe OK for a upright? But the cabinet surely won't be optimal for speakers like that.
It brings me back to Jr college concert sound courses, and there was always that one dude who swore that his car audio subwoofers hit lower frequencies than the pa system. That dude has got to be related. Oranges won't make a good apple pie...

But either way, it don't look right! And there were reasons square speakers didn't catch on right? Total marketing gimmick by Sony.

I am partial to the pebble grille's so it is double blasphemy to me.
Think the box had to be cut to fit those? Probably, ugh is right! Perhaps hope for the Jr box?

Reminds me of the acquaintance that was so very proud of yanking the stock drivers out of his (Big Name) cabs and replacing them with Pyles. He just knew he had the best PA around.
