why?

Try being a drummer... then tell me bass is an expensive instrument. Broken heads, sticks, and cymbals nickel and dime you to death. Strings can sometimes last a year or more. If they feel dead, take them off and boil them. Restring them and bam! good as new. If you aren't finding the deals you need yet, keep looking, you'll come across a serious deal on a bass or amp eventually. Learn to fix guitar cables also, that's been my savior. Apparently I'm rough on them. AMS had an Ampeg B2R b stock for less than $300. I bought one and I am in love with it. My main gig bass is a carlo robelli swd with a emg pickup. $250 is all I have in that bass and I bought it new. Sure I own nicer stuff, but it just feels perfect. For less than $600 I can play in three bands and gig frequently.

Some one needs to take economics again. If its too much for you,go play guitar, since its cheaper. That or just play shi--y gear and dont complain.

Exactly, if you've never dealt with any kind of manufacturer then I could see that kind of point of view. It's absolutely 110% about money. It could cost nearly a few million dollars to design and make a mold for a mass produced "widget", then after you mass produce 20,000 of them(labor, parts, machinery, and tooling), think about how many you would have to sell at the msrp of $500 to make your money back.

I can guarantee that 20,000 is not all you would have to produce to do so. This is not exactly relevant to instruments, but it is easy to screw yourself if the product is only going to sell 5,000 units.

why is EVERYTHING on bass more expensive, i bought a bass and basses in general are more expensive than regular guitars, even the strings cost more. im trying to get a bass amp, particularly line 6 brand(because of the distortion) 1st off the amps are way more expensive on bass than guitar, and theres less distortion/effects on bass than guitar that the line 6 bass amps have. all items on bass are more expensive than guitar, why?

Not all bass guitars are that expensive. I could name you a couple of affordable bass guitars that sounds just as good as high-prices basses. ibanez, schecter, dean, fernandes, yamaha, peavey, ltd, traben, washburn. these are good examples of good quality bass guitars at affordable prices. just remember that when it comes to buying bass guitars, it really doesn't matter how much they costs. it's the sound quality that matters.

even the strings cost more.

Surely you should be familiar with the construction of a guitar string. EBG strings plain, DAE strings wrapped with one outer layer...

This is a bass string:

Make sense now?

so shouldn't it be cheaper since not many people play bass
If we are going to oversimplify things that drastically (to defy something as universally simple as logic itself), then Basses would have to cost more because they would theoretically not be able to move as many Basses as their Guitar counterparts.

Cheaper prices are simply a luxury of a more successful business model, not much more.
