Double Bass Wich type of Gut Strings use Russel Hall?

does anyone know which kind of gut strings Russel Hall, an excellent bass player, uses?
He plays with the outstanding Emmet Cohen Trio.
They look like Pirastos in the head but the color code on the tailpiece confuses me

I can't really recognize the color code on the tail-piece, but if it's black, it should be the (no longer produced) Pirastro Pizzicato

thank you La Faro 01 and zzzzz, yes these are probably Pirastro Pizzicato strings. I've never tried them. Have a nice Weekend!

Got to talk to Russell when he came through Buffalo in September, he didn't have his bass but said that he uses Chordas, Eudoxa, Pizzicato. Russell was clear that he only uses gut strings. Great player especially when Kyle Poole is on the set, unbelievable chemistry.

I watch the Emmet Cohen Trio live stream every week and most of the times Russel is playing but sometimes they will have Yasushi Nakamura. Both great bassists, but i always notice a big tonal difference and usually Russel is the one in the lead. His tone is usually sitting perfectly in the mix while Yasushi's is much muddier and gets buried. Not sure if its the hands or the strings, but whatever Russel is doing is definitely right on the money.

Russell is my homie! He uses the pizzicato strings. He has such a great sound. Can't beat the sound of guts!

I used them a number of years ago with a Gamut G and D. They had a really great gut sound, but with much more sustain and clarity than the usual wound gut E and A. They ended up with a friend who actually didn't like them much because they were too "modern" sounding for him. The winding was a kind of half-round silver, smoother than a round wound string, but definitely not flat wound. There are sound samples on Herve Jeanne's String Matrix site.

I would be curious to know which strings Yasushi is using—I know he also plays guts. No hand issues with either of those guys, in my opinion.

I've usually seen him playing Spirocore Weichs EAD and a gut G. Don't know what kind, though.

I just admire marching with a wheel. Gotta give him props there no matter what strings he's using. You could put a pjb double four with a laptop battery in a backpack and compete a bit.

I had them on for a minute. Very cool. They had a bright edge, big sound, tons of sustain. Excellent low gut strings for jazz. Would love to try the nylon wound uppers but since they're discontinued...

Seems like they're miked differently. Mr Hall has a mike on a stand in front of the F-hole while Mr Nakamura has the "Nadine" mic...

Judging by its sound and colour of the tail-piece end, They could be Evah Pirazzi strings, not made of gut.

He has been changing his strings a lot these days. As far as I could identify in "Emmet's Place" and his instagram, he's tried at least 4 types of strings in the last 12 months (Pirastro Pizzicato→Pirastro Evah Pirazzi→Pirastro Jazzers→Pirastro Evah Pirazzi Slaps(now)) he's definitely seeking his own sound rn.
