To help with stone rorosin:
Store
your rosin in Ziploc with a wet paper towel. (Poor man's humidor)
You know the little sponge inside some rosin containers? I used to think those were shock absorbers for when I dropped my rosin. But they serve as humidifiers. Keep them wet, and the humidity will keep your rosin sticky forever. try also cut sponges put in rosin containers for this purpose.

It keeps a long time this way.

oak soft for me too. It feels better to me. But they both work great, especially in cold. I've not tried the Wiedoft in summer, but the oak soft is too soft for outdoor summer work. I use a harder rosin in summer, usually Carlson or Nyman, though both of those turn into goo on our outdoor jobs.

Heh. I actually switch to no-rosin in the summer and let the Oak melt out of the hair over those months. And re-apply in October.

You know, can always just get the bow rehaired. Works just as well! I do mine every 2 years or so.

One vote for Wiedoft , a swipe about every three hours or about five times per week. Think I'm disappointing my teacher in not wanting to swipe every half-hour! and at that rate, I've used about 1/4 cake in about a year.

Over the past year or so, I’ve settled into using both — a couple of swipes of Wiedoft as a base followed by a swipe or two of Oak. Usually no need to reapply on that day.

Works well for me, even for managing my Spiro EAs I’ve got on the bottom.

sounds complicated but I agree with why you would follow up with Oak after the Wiedoft.

i hate the packaging for Oak, though...last time I tried to order the leather pouches they said they no longer provide them.

I have recently acquired a cake of each of these and want to try the same process. Is it still working well for you?

I picked up my bow today from a re-hair today (bassists in LA/SoCal if you haven't gotten a re-hair yet from Brianna Goldberg yet, you're missing out) and got a cake of Wiedoeft to try out. Although I've only been using it for a few hours today I'm really liking it. It's sticky with plenty of grab, but there is very little extra noise like crackling (Pops did this to me a lot) and the sound is just really nice. Tons of dynamic range. Been practicing some of the Dragonetti waltzes tonight and it's been real nice with this rosin. Wish there was a gig to try this on though...

Just got a cake of Wiedoft yesterday and will be trying it out. Might post my thoughts in a week or 2. My 2 year old cake of Carlson's (yeah I know, been putting it off for a while) has gone stale.

Again, I'm not much of an orchestral player but I guess I'd fall into the category of jazz player who uses the bow a decent amount. Should be interesting to try, if nothing else.

TMI/FYI.
Just got my cake of Wiedoeft a few days ago and it is really nice, so far. I just installed (a few days ago) new Spiro Mittels A, D, G , and it is working nicely. ALL Spiros call for a rosin with at least some Testosterone in the recipe. (Don't even think of adding a joke here. Srsly.)
We'll see how it ages. It was $30 at Lemur. Hey... it's only money. The 3 Spiros were $160.
