Double Bass Wiedoeft Bass Rosin

It is a great Rosin, but it is a bit like BBQ places in any given town. The new one needs to better than the best one to survive. Leatherwood has the qualities of this but so much better. Leatherwood gets the closest to Pops without drying or, more importantly, liquifying by the end of a set.
As far as pork ribs in St. Louis there is very solid BBQ joint named Pappy's and it just doesn't hold a candle to the newer, more consistent Salt & Smoke. In any other town it would be best, and it was for years. That is what is happening here...

So I bought the cake of Wiedoeft I April. I’ve been noticing it’s cracked quite a bit through the cake (see pics). In all fairness I may have wacked it moving it around, but if that’s not the case, and this just happened with time, does this cracking indicate that it has reached end of life?

Probably suggests your choice of revival methods - remelting or the stickied thread on treating with alcohol fumes.

Having tried both I'm happier with remelting.

Some people's choice of revival method is buy a new cake. I'm not those people. You might or might not be.

Found some instructions from Don Kasper on melting rosin after I posted this morning, had a lot of bubbles after melting in the microwave, so I took a bottle torch to pop them, and tossed it in the freezer for a few hours. Here’s the result, turned out pretty good! Going to let it sit overnight per his instructions, but I have a feeling it’s good as new!

My initial observations on a bass is strung with Spiro S42 weich:
The Wiedoeft makes it easy to draw a clear fundamental on this set- even when playing quieter passages. It grips the string well when I want it to and I don’t get any raspy quality on sustained notes. I tried it yesterday for a theater pit rehearsal and it was consistent for the entire time. I played off all of the older rosin prior to applying 2 swipes of Wiedoeft

Compared to Kolstein soft, it has a little more grab and seems to last a bit longer before re-applying.
Less grab than Pops.
The Leatherwood 50% feels softer, but I can apply less Wiedoeft and get more grab.
I really liked Brohan’s Oak soft when it was available and wish that I could directly compare the two.
