Wierd al

He reminds me of what we used to do in high school, hanging out and making up spoof words to the hits of the day. We had a great obscene version of Rod Stewart's "Maggie May". He's taken that much farther than I would have thought possible. I was raised on the records of Allan Sherman, so I welcomed Weird Al in that tradition. My kids and my nephews love him. Then again, they love fart jokes...(sigh)

I think Weird Al was the first musician I was really into, when I was about 11 or 12 and started getting more interested in music. I had a bunch of his albums on cassette. I probably wore out my copy of "Off the Deep End" from fast forwarding and rewinding it so much. I think I saw his video for "Smells Like Nirvana" before seeing the video for the actual Nirvana song, and that made me a fan right there.

Generally pretty funny, though like any joke it can get old.

His band, though, is AMAZING. They play in such a wide range of styles, and always very well. Several of Al's parodies I prefer musically to the songs that they parody. Great show, I see him every chance I get.

It's all about the Pentiums, baby!

Based on my extensive experience of one show by each, I will say that Steven Jay does Flea better than Flea does Flea.

The Chilis might have been a bit off on "Give It Away"when I saw them, but Wierd Al's band was dead on like a rock on "Yabba Dabba Do."'

I grew up on Weird Al. When I was too young to appreciate mainstream music, Weird Al's albums were great to me on a lyrical and visual level - he was hilariously attired in the 90s with those coke bottle glasses before he got laser eye surgery. When I grew to appreciate music more for music, I also found I liked him because he sounded great.

I don't have any of the older albums anymore - must have lost them, and I remember my copy of Off the Deep End warped in the hot car stereo. I do have Poodle Hat on CD, though.

Seeing him in concert was the pinnacle though. I saw him at a theme park for free (after paid admission) - he played for maybe 3 hours. I don't listen to him as much anymore, but as others have said, he holds a special place in my heart.

I've seen him live twice. He puts on a FANTASTIC show. Plus his band rocks - his bassist (Steve Jay) has some pretty good solo stuff too.

What is great is the first time I saw him it opened with a video clip from king of the hill where Hank tells bobby weird al committed suicide in the 80s when people stopped buying his albums.

He's quite a musician. He really wails it on the acordian and his voice is quite impressive. (He does a lot more vocals on poodle hat than on his previous albums).

i was a fan in elementary school, my brother had all his albums. i dont know when but i got sick of him, although i will say that UHF is a damn good flick, and the flintstones song still makes me chuckle. and the one with all the palendromes.
