Wii have a problem

okay guys, here it goes;

i've got a nintendo wii and although im satisfied with it, it can't seem to find an access point to connect to the interwebs. I've got a Linksys WRT54G internet router, and my computer does pick up the wireless signal.

So the problem is how the hell is this possible? My computer CAN find the access point and therefore connect to the internet, but my Wii CAN'T. It can however find other access points (from neighbours n stuff). Also my wii is like 2 meters from my computer and is in the same room so someone needs to help me out here

Are you broadcasting your SSID? I wouldn't but if you aren't you won't see it. Sorry if that is obvious to you, I just don't know how much you know about this stuff.

I have a Wii and the same wireless router as you and I've had no problems connecting.

Set your router to channel 1 and if your SSID is Linksys change that too.

okay, now my wii can find the ssid
but now it can't connect to the interwebs, coming up with error code 51330, and my pc is connected to the interwebs

You using WEP security or WPA?

If you router is set to G only mode set it to mixed mode as well.

It sounds silly but try yanking out the GameCube memory cards and see it works.

anyways, it's already set to mixed and ive already entered the password for the ssid

gc memcard didn't affect a thing

after i enter the password it's testing the internet connection (you get that bleepy sound)
it then says in a popup, heading error 51330, it has failed to connect to the internet, recheck the values in internet under wii options (or sth like that)

btw, would changing the mtu-value matter? it's currently on 0 but i wouldn't know what to change it for

I would downgrade your wireless network to WEP 64 bit, let Wii connect and do it's updates and then upgrade your network back to WPA and see if that helps. Wii works with AES better than TKIP.

i've already upgraded it to 2.1 before my dad installed the wireless thingies, so that shouldn't be the problem. besides, i think it's best not to mess with the security system as long as my dad is the main operator of the system

Each device on the network has a specific MAC address that is a unique identifier. If you dad has that turned on until he puts the MAC address on the Wii in the router it will not work. You will be able to see the wireless connection but connect properly.

Unless you live in a congested area WPA is overkill for wireless security. I live on an acre and still use WEP due to issues with WPA still.

Step One:

Go to your router page.

Step Two:

Change to WEP security.

That should work. That's all I had to do. WEP, 26 digit for extra safenessty.

Immediately detected it.
