The pressure increased since mention of large banks/financial institutions' data is forthcoming.

"So we have diplomatic activity related to what appears, if this cable is correct, to be child prostitution linked to a US company providing services in Afghanistan.

This is the sort of thing our government is trying to keep from being disclosed by Wikileaks?

This is what our government deemed "classified"?

Covering up child prostitution - if that's what happened - is a legitimate "state secret"?"

I've begun wading though the leaks recently since they archived them all into one download; it's absolutely fascinating.

A buddy if mine is currently learning Arabic to become a military interpreter and will have top secret clearance. I can only imagine the wealth of information he'll have access to.

I'm with you ADbassman, 100 percent. I always find it puzzling that many Americans can criticize our US government (freely and safely) and not appreciate the basic freedom our military provides for them to do so. I know the scene in a Few Good Men about Sleeping under the blanket of security they (Marines) provide , but can't remember it word for word; but anyone who has seen the film will remember and get the point.

Anything that puts our soldiers at risk WHILE THEY ARE FIGHTING FOR US is wrong- Wikileaks is harmful for those brave soldiers; it puts them in harm's way.

If the world was run by Barney the purple dinosaur then maybe we wouldn't need the military, but (unfortunately :smug:) it is not and I don't need to know every little secret about countries 4,000 miles away.

You know, you could argue that using the military for political leverage instead of matters of defense does more to put troops in harm's way than finding out that, say, a bunch of Arab countries want us to attack Iran, or what the ambassador to Syria had for breakfast.

There haven't been any documents released yet that are on the level of the Pentagon Papers, or anywhere close, really. When something very damning comes up, then your argument would have more evidence.

Yes I believe that is true.......so far. I could be wrong, but I don't like what some disgruntled journalist is trying to do to weaken our nation. If people hate this country and continuously mis-trust our government and look for conspiracies then why do they stay here?

Oh yeah - because they have that freedom to make that choice and it is much better here than many other places.

I don't think distrusting the government goes hand in hand with hating the country--regardless of your personal political stance.

Now, you may argue that it's in the best interest to keep the public in the dark on the specifics, and, generally speaking, I can see the logic in that. But officials need to be held accountable, and transparency is one way to provide that.
