Wild gated-type fuzz for active bass

Just sold a wooly mammoth cause it doesn't particularly get along with my big al.

Any similar gated sounding fuzz pedals that get along with active basses?

Mastotron will get you close - it acts a lot like a WM and can handle active basses better. Doesn't get as nasty IMO and it doesn't get as gated as I'd like with actives, but can do some pulse width modulation sounds.

I love my Copilot Orbit for this. Can get you some ridiculous sounds if you're ok with synthier sounds.

Honestly it depends on your pups/preamp - some actives play better with gated fuzzes than others. I've found turning down the bass volume and keeping it chill with the eq boosts really helps except for a weird bass I have which just refused to not be an oddball.

The sound in my head is second verse of Arctic Monkey's "Do I wanna known?" if that helps.

If you can find one, the Chunk Systems Brown Dog will get you there. Works well with active basses.

Already writen but copilot fx orbit is my choise as well. But only if you want synthy fuzz.

How about turning down your volume into the pedal? The pedal need a specific input gain to work properly.

A Mastotron IS a Woolley Mammoth but with an extra knob to control the input gain. I think one pot value is different too. I happen to have one of each (coz I'm weird like that). The circuit layout is the same for both circuits.

@GMC I'm weird like that too, I have a Mastotron, WM & IE Oxide on my board!
@anyonefortennis My bass is passive but the WM is my least favorite, I use the Mastotron the most, mainly because of how it reacts after my Freqbox but I DO love that pedal!! Out of all of them, the IE Oxide can get the most "gated" .

Absolutely bud...I built a clone of both...and erm, was a but surprised too. I think the name "Woolley Mamouth" is just way way cooler than "Mastotron"...which frankly sounds a bit...well..y'know!

I've not tried those two pedals...I go and check em out!

I could be wrong, but to my ears, that sounds a lot like a Proco Rat with everything set to noon.

You'll need a P bass to get it to sound the same as the Artic Monkeys. If you play through a Jazz...it's behave differently. Have a listen to this...about 41 secs in:
