Will Bass strings go flat(dead) by just sitting on a bass

No, they don't go dead from just sitting. I had a set of Progressives on my Rickenbacker 4002 (yes, "2," not "1" or "3") for a few years when I was gigging another instrument. The iron in the Alloy 52 rusted from humidity, but they did not go dead. Other folks who have chrome or stainless flats on their basses keep them for decades.
