Will Black Widows fit???

sorry if this is the wrong forum to put it in but it seemed logical, if its not please move)

Ok i have an Earth Sound Research cab that has 2 15" speakers(which are both torn and 1 of the cones is cracked[but they still work]) and it is basically a Peavey rip off and i know that Peavey cabs do use black widow speakers so i was wondering if i would have any trouble putting them in or anything

You may have to do a little bit of shaving here or there on the plywood around the speaker hole. Maybe not. But either way its no big deal. Go for it. The screw holes may or may not line up perfectly, but thats no biggie either.

Speaker cabinets are designed around specific speakers, based on their specifications (called Thiele-Small parameters). You should try and find the specs for the current drivers and then look for another driver with similar specs. Not an easy task without the proper knowledge; although there are plenty of people here that can help you.

It may be simpler to buy another inexpensive cabinet with good speakers.

Speakers will only perform properly in a cabinet designed for them and you need the Thiele-Small parameters (as 'jdombrow' said) to determine the important cabinet specs.

I would measure the dimensions of the cabinet and use that to determine the inside volume of the cabinet (Length x Width x Height). You should remove the speakers and measure the internal dimensions directly as this is more accurate than measuring the outside dimensions and estimating from that.

Judging by the picture, I would guess that there are many drivers that would work in that cabinet (including the Peavey BW). The tricky part is to then design the ports to the proper diameter and length to tune the cabinet for the new speakers. You'll need to use cab design software (free on interweb) to calculate the port sizes, but first you need to know the cab volume and speaker Thiele-Small parms.
