"Jimbob, if the situation at your church is as you say, then the Avioms are the worst possible course of action. Especially if they are using acoustic drums (even with a shield). One of my biggest discouragments is when my family tells me they could not hear a note I played. Last Sunday my son said he could kind of pick out a note here and there, but only if he watched my fingers to see when I was hitting the strings. Otherwise burried under the mic'ed kick and the piano. (Son is 17, a good drummer, and has heard my bass playing all his life. He knows the difference between instruments and is a decent sound guy when you can talk him into doing it.) You only hear this so many times before you are ready to quit.
Good luck,
- Paul (who has probably said too much)"
Paul, yep, that's def. one of my issues. People have said the same thing. It makes you mad. And it is not only me, I can assure you. Our poor drummer has had his issues. We got the Pastor to remove part of the plexi screen, and actually he requested it so he could hear the drums. It's a PC issue at this point and something will be done on the whole.
Thing is, this is a nice theatre, coffee shop, 700 seat capacity, theatre seating, nice acoustics, etc.,etc.. As CWM's, we have to do our job to reach people thru the music. It's frustrating when we can't be the best at it cause some guy doesn't have a clue. Sorry I said it that way.
Oh, for the record, this Theatre was handed to the church just last year when the former production company whent out of biz. There are no expert sound people as of yet, but I believe in time there will be.
