will these flats loose tension?

for around 1-2 years iv had my westone spectrum ST strung up with a set of light gauge fender strings (I got em for free when I bought my jazz bass so I slapped em on the westie)

anyway, I bought a set of flats, its been years since iv had some; I got rotosound flats (regular I think; the E string is a 105) and these things are so godforsaken stiff! my fingers are killing me!

will they loosen up? my position has changed from just infront of the bridge to pretty much the start of the neck.

love flats and they sound awesome, but my playing has realy suffered in the last few days since buying the flats:scowl:

I don't have another bass to play at the moment either.

1) They won't

2) Does playing at the neck bother you? When I switched to flats I also started playing at the neck, but I got used to it pretty soon.

3) You may consider a good setup for your bass. Flats allow lower action - after the setup it will be easier for your fretting hand and your plucking hand will someway automatically pluck lighter/

4) Rotos are one of the most high tension strings and 45-105 is a bit too heavy gauge or flats, so if you find yourself liking the flats' sound you may try a 40-100 or even a lighter set (Rotos come even in 35-90 if I remember things right)

5) Always play with your bass amplified - it will make getting used to flats and readjusting your playing style much easier

I also had a problem with high tension flats (like fenders, which were my first set). My left hand cramped up a lot.

Switched to TI Jazz flats in .100 and never looked back. Great sound and really low tension.

Strings don't "lose tension" unless you alter your tuning.

TI jazz flats ... they fixed my tension problem and i went from fender ML flats to the TI's and they are perfect. i had to raise the action on the A string cuz it was too low causing a very slight fret buzz but after the adjustment they are the perfect string
