Here is a rare clip from around 1982. It's rare because he is not playing his normal beat up classical guitar. He has been playing it since about 1969.

Do you think there is a big difference in the sound of his playing without it?

His style has changed over the years so it's hard to compare. Now he plays more aggressively and with more abandon. He seems to be unafraid to hit the wrong note when he does those chromatic runs to get from point A to point B. Sometimes it gets a little cringeworthy, but like his voice, he's a one of a kind.

I read where Glen Campbell noticing that beat up guitar gifted him with the same year and model Martin Spanish nylon string guitar, but in excellent condition. Naturally as expected Willie continues to play the one he's worn a hole through.

He was playing that way in the 70's too sometimes. Bloody Mary Morning, etc. This is a slower song in comparison.

I wonder if Glen Campbell gave him this. I assumed he was using a nicer looking guitar just because of the female audience. lol
