Wilson Effects Freaker Wah Soundclips

Just pulled this out of the box and am giving it a play. It's VERY different from any other wah I've tried, it's very cool, and very unique! There's so many different tones you can coax out of it, I can tell that I'm going to have to spend some time with this one and get to know it real good, this kind of thing can totally change what you normally use wah pedals for.

For this clip I'm running the Freaker Wah with both settings at noon, which I think I read in the manual is the stock vintage setting.

I'm also running my Bass Beano Boost after the Freaker Wah and into a tube amp. I know some people probably want to hear the pedal clean, well I can't really do that right now, I need my DIRT!

First is the wah off, then on. Check it out:

There's a cool bass intro to a Wolfmother (yeah I know) song, I think it's called Sundial, I heard it before and my instinct was that the Freaker Wah could do that spot on. I don't know how to play that song and I'm not sure how it goes, but I constructed something similar from memory just to give you a taste. The Wilson Freaker Wah is great for this rock bass stuff with a cranked up tube amp. Check it out:

That's just the wah pedal and a tube amp.

I was going to order one of these but just nabbed a used Chicago Iron Parachute from the classifieds instead! California Queen by Wolfmother and NIB by Black Sabbath are my reasons for wanting a wah in the first place, hopefully should do the trick!

I know that, but Kevin is a really nice guy, and I can't say that much for the dude that came to this forum from Chicago Iron a good while back. But as a matter of practicality it's been demonstrated that Kevin will stand behind his product and offer excellent customer support, as he has in my experience with him, and I don't get the impression I'd get the same from Chicago Iron.

Yeah they're a lot of fun, wahs are.

I think that's my favorite setting on the Freaker Wah so far. The 6 position switch is straight up and the knob is at 9 o'clock. I'm using the Orange amp in that clip for a hi-gain type sound. Amp volume is not even at one so it's a very low volume recording.

Yes, I also own a 12 Position Bass Q Wah.

The Freaker is pretty funky/synthy/envelopefiltery into a clean amp, but makes an awesome rock bass wah into heavy distortion for heavy riffing type stuff. I'd say it trumps the Bass Q Wah for heavily distorted/fuzzed heavy riffing.

The 12 Position Bass Q Wah has an excellent rock-ish clean sound that I really like, and it is also good for using with distortion and fuzz, and I'd say it trumps the Freaker Wah as a "lead bass" wah.

Comparison clips. First is the Freaker Wah with the MXR El Grande Bass Fuzz:

Then the 12 Position Bass Q Wah with the same fuzz, same settings on everything else:

These are just low volume clips, nothing serious, but that should give those of you wondering some idea.
