I love my Surface Pro 3. As I loved my old Asus Transformer tablet/laptop thing until I killed it.

That said, iOS does have a file system underneath it and you need an app or two to gain access to it. But it's not designed for that. What they're designed for is fairly important with Apple products, it's hard to get away from those design decisions.

I use "file browser" and a few other apps that allow me to connect to a wi-fi HD and it works just fine, if you want a structure as you had in Windows, as long as you stay within the available storage capabilities of your device

Let me understand this. You got an iPad for free. It doesn't do what you want, how you want it. People have tried to help you figure out how to make it useful for your needs, but since you can't do it the way YOU want, you are pissed.

So, why not sell it for a few bucks, and go buy something else. It was free right? What's the issue?

No problem to fix, just resistance to learning how to access a PC from a wee iPad.

A wee, free iPad. Which is not a computer. It's a convenience VIEWER for media and surfing and yes, even files if you leave the earth and begin using the cloud.

Convert your files to PDF, sync PDF files to iPad, search for and open PDF in iBooks. Too easy. There's likely even free or cheap apps that can do similar things with fewer steps.

Or, MS Office for iOS?

I told him to do that two pages ago. I don't think he digs the idea. He'd rather complain about Apple than accept that the device was never designed to work like a PC. He'd rather be angry than find a solution that works (yours/mine, other's).
