Winter build Off 2019 – Mash Up

Can I do a mash up of two of my own builds? I know that's kind of lame, but I have an idea for a shape that incorporates two of the bodies I've done before.
Sounds like a mashup to me. The rules didn't specify design cues had to come from commercial products. Might the voting populace buy It? Who cares!

HAHA!! Yeah, right! I'd love to get back to working on this, but life keeps getting in the way. I'm just hoping to finish on time at this point.

In all honesty, there's a lot of really nice stuff happening, but I'm afraid of @postalflunkie the most right now. His build is looking AH-MAY-ZING.

Sir I'll take that as a compliment of the highest degree (I can only hope to stand in your shadow, your work is amazing) :smug:

I have a proposal for a "builder's choice" award. The builders could have our own vote based on building technique and construction (or whatever criteria). I was interested to see the comments from the general population at TB last year after the build-off was announced via other TB channels, but they see these builds much differently than we do, it would be interesting to have an "internal" poll.

Would you want only the builders participating or include all builders who frequent this forum:wideyed:? I think a larger pool of feedback would be more valid and helpful:hyper:. I would be disappointed if it became a clique:(.

This would be way to hard to administer.
Also, I work with Paul to get our build off posted in the TB newsletter. We ask people to vote. This gives great visibility to all entrants. Giving people the power to vote is one of the mechanisms that gets all builds visibility

As long as we are on voting, builders will not be allowed to vote for themselves this year. I ask that you "Share the love" with your fellow builders. Some form of tar and feather will be the consequence.

People voted for their own builds? Agreed, that's not cool.

I don't mean to be the voice of descent, but I'm not comfortable with being told who I can and cannot vote for. In the past, we've been able to vote for up to three entries. So by default (in the past), we could vote for at least one other build besides our own. Again, I don't mean to be "not cool", but if I think one of my builds is the best of the lot, why can't I vote for it? Being "cool" has never been something I typically strive for. Being honest, on the other hand, is.

What if builders were to NOT vote in the general polling and instead send a PM to @Scoops for their vote (but NOT their own build)? This way there could also be a "builders choice" type award.

I really dont want to do that task. If you/someone wants to do some data mining when the build off is over, I will not stop you. After all, the data is all there.

Hey LC Peeps...

I just posted this on my thread.

"I am removing myself from this competition.

I have to be honest with myself and admit that I have too much on my plate to keep this going in the time allotted. I am still trying to get caught up with past due customer builds and I am still working to expand/organize my business to accommodate my increasing work (This year I am offering a line of instruments to be sold to dealers). I have help now and am looking for an apprentice to further assist me.

Last year was incredible but it doesn't mean crap if you can't keep up and that is what I am concentrating on.

I love these build offs, The talent that resides in the LC is off the charts! I dig participating and that was my train of thought when I entered this but the reality is it's the wrong time for me. My Bad."

Good luck to all involved, you all are freakin' amazing!

I'll be watching,

Moonshine :bassist:

Wise choice @moonshinegtrs. Business travel, vacations and a large honeydew list are getting in the way of my builds. One or both may be late, but they will get done.

Regarding the voting... cool or not, I think that voting for your own builds should not be prohibited, because the last thing that a volunteer moderator needs is more artificial rules to enforce. Keep it simple.

Ditto that. Both in the hat tip to Shine and the fact that life is interceding too much in my build time! (Plus, except the last couple days--during the work week!--it's mostly been too cold to work in my shop (er...unheated garage).
