Winter build Off 2019 – Mash Up

So my mashup entry has elements of Atlansia (several basses), Gretsch Jupiter Thunderbird and Ovation Magnum III. In the process of finding those elements and bringing them together, I came across the Atlansia Jupiter. I already knew that Ritter had a model called a "Jupiter" and so I started searching for basses named "Jupiter". I was quickly reminded of Adamovic's Jupiter, as well as Riverhead's Jupiter. I also learned that Schecter had made a Jupiter a couple of decades ago, and there was also a 60's Italian bass with that name as well, the Meazzi Jupiter. Seems to me that we just may have the makings of a mash-up... the Jupiter.

Lol, this is exactly how I arrived at the S-200/Gibson NR T-bird mashup. Maybe I need to look for a few more Tbirds for a few more elements

True dat. When I was looking for instruments called Jupiter, it quickly became large, that's why I narrowed it down to basses. That said, might be cool to go all out and include anything that was ever labeled a Jupiter. :D For example, this: Jowett Jupiter - Wikipedia

I'd vote burned pine/oil.

I've seen and feel comfortable with solid finished Alembics that were kinda metallic. And I know, like, a day-glow, super sparkle wouldn't be the same, but if it's done well, it looks good on anything.
Burned pine/oil would feel further from the norm in their camp.

That's my $0.02

I'd go pine, but made of a number of 2X4's glues together, and then a haphazard rattle can finish (preferably Rustoleum) complete with air bubbles and drippings in full view. Some of the drippings sanded down to expose wood, Finest sandpaper used to finish - 80 grit. I think that would be antithetical (Thanks for the new word)

Taking it a step further: Biscuit joints to join the 2x4s. Dont alter thembefore joining, so the rounded edges make indentations between them. Then, don't cut the body out--just a few 2x4s attached together in a rectangle for the body. Short of taking stuff from the dump, i dont know how much more antithetical to an Alembic you could get.

I'm opening Luthier's Corner obsessively these days, on my phone, my computer, my kids' iPad, etcetera. Nearly as much of an addiction as building... :D This morning, I realized that there are no new unread threads in the Luthier's Corner. :( I went back many, many, many, many pages, and I've read them all... o_O:bawl: I can't wait for these builds to progress a little more so we can see some things taking fuller shape. I can't survive on @Jisch 's work alone - I need a fix! :cool: :smug:
