I wish I could have participated but have too much on the go right now. I have two ideas in the works, a double neck bass (regular six b-b and a six string piccolo also b-b) for one and the other is a "Witchcraft Special Double Alchemy six string". Both would have fit the twin theme. They will happen though even if just regular build threads.

Thread 'Winter Build Off 2025: The Twin that Frets Too Much'

Late entry. I'm not sure if I'll get this done in time, but I thought I'd try.

This bass will be the fretted twin of the bass that I submitted for the Summer Build Off 2024

Like the previous one, I will be using maple and walnut. Same pattern as the fretless, but i will be using purple heart instead of padauk. The Walnut has a nice sapwood pattern that I hope is a major feature when finished.

From Scratch.

Fretboard will be this nice rosewood piece that I found in a local wood store.

As this being a "twin", many of the same aspects will be used with some slight changes.

"Travel Broadens The Mind" is my entry to the scratch build category of Winter Build Off 2025

30" scale 4 string
twin passive narrow humbucker rail pickups
7 piece ash and purpleheart bolt on neck
1 piece ash body
custom headless hardware
2265g (4.97 lbs)
46mm nut
18mm string spacing

The tone is brighter and and clearer than ordinary humbuckers but without the bite of Jazz pickups. The body doesn't move around despite being small, and there's no neck dive despite the lack of upper horn. The purpleheart laminates make the neck very stiff. It's a genuine take anywhere instrument...

Okay, a bit late to the party but here it goes :

New bass starting building : Bartender Precision Bass/Johnnie Walker Edition 2025

Body : USA alder of 4.3 pounds
Neck : Light brown roasted maple, half curly, standard jazz bass style
Pickups : True Custom Shop Vintage 60 hot
Bridge : Standard bent plate (might also use a Wilkinson with brass saddles if the look fits better)
Tuners : Standard Fender MIM
Control plate : Standard Telecaster style with standard knobs
Twin ? Yes, two pickups, two knobs, two pots
Category : Assembly build

Should start working on it next week or so, can't wait...

It's a wrap!

The bass will start it's journey from Australia to the USA in a couple of days.

This was a fun build. I have to say that there are multiple choices @dickwagor made on this bass that I would have never considered for myself. String spacing, pickup choice, neck thickness, lack of wild laminates and so on.

What has resulted is a pretty damn fine bass. Richard knew what he was doing all along.

For me, it's now time for that nervous wait between sending a bass and it's recipient busting their first groove. Richard has some serious bonafides as a professional musician and...
