Winter NAMM 2015 Updates - Amps

I'll pass. Oversized heads are a waste of space.
didn't mean to suggest every bass player would dig this. to each his own. I have small amps with modern designs, but I'd say the old school style is pretty cool visually, and unless your cabs are very mini, a 24" wide head will sit well on most cabs. Of course this is all IMO/IME.

Of course, I don't think I'm alone in this view given the pretty serious appeal of amps like the Bassman 100T, Super Bassman 300, and the various Ampeg heritage, classic and reissue SVT, B15 and V4B versions out there.

You just named a bunch of tube amps. Most of whose design dictates it's layout. (Although I'd argue that too)

I don't know why it's impossible to make something rackmount sized and look vintage. Or better yet lunchbox size.

Hell the GB Streamliner has the same number of smallsignal tubes and it doesn't need a 4x10 to not hang off the edge of.

Engineering for the eyes is not engineering. It's interior decoration.

Yes I did (name a bunch of tube amps) and they all have that old school aesthetic, and they have all sold pretty well. I would reasonably argue the point that the headcase is all about aesthetics, not engineering. Given that the Bassman 500 apparently has just 2 12AX7's in the preamp section, Fender could have easily made it look like the GK MB Fusion or Genz amps (very modern looking small footprint), or even like the Mesa Walkabout (modern-ish, small-ish footprint) but I'm guessing they were trying to appeal to the evidently reasonably large market for vintage (looking) gear.

again, to each his own.

I still think it looks (and sounds) pretty cool, but then again, I think this looks pretty cool too:

Fender on Fender rebadged LDS sm.jpg

so, you get where my head is at.

peace

I'll be appearing at the Monster Cable Booth on Saturday, at 1 pm, as part of the cast of HIRED GUN; a new documentary about hired gun musicians. I'll be doing a meet and greet with fellow bassists Rudy Sarzo and David Ellefson, as well as a bunch of guitarists and drummers. COME SAY HI!

Eden stuff looks amazing!
the speakon connectors on the rear have internal LED lights. They glow Green when the socket is available for a 4 ohm cab, amber for an 8 ohm and red for "dont plug anything into me or you'll take me under 4 ohms and see magic smoke".

EDIT: Also, there is a new Tube Mix pot and switch that brings in a *second* tube in the preamp to let you choose between traditional Eden clean and warmer tube style tone.
