Winter NAMM 2018 (ultra Pic-heavy)

What's new with Aguilar?

Purple is the name of the game. Limited edition silver cabs, and a new monster.

I thought the placement of this string tree was interesting. It seemed too far from the nut (to me). They said that it gives them just enough break, so it's all good.

This was custom made for a guy who had two strange requirements. The first, he wanted holes. He originally wanted them to take the wood to a shooting range and put some holes in it the old west way. However, when he was told that would just shatter the wood, he asked them to find knotty (not naughty) wood to get the holes. The quest took awhile, but they did it. That hole down by the bridge goes all the way through. The second request....burn it. So, a blowtorch was used on it.

A pretty nice gig bag. I wish it had more rubber on the bottom.

A pocket to hold the straps so they don't snag on anything when they're not in use.

Their custom non-swiveling ring keeps the side-strap stable, and prevents tangling.

The show just started, and they're all already sold!

I asked about a 4-string version of this semi-hollow dark blonde beauty. I was told that if I put in an order now, maybe next year. They all ready for the 5, but not so much the 4. It would require a lot of custom work.

So I asked the Aria Pro II guy why they don't have a U.S. distributor. They sorta do, but they're in Canada. He told me that they're actively looking for a new distributor, and if I know of anyone to let him know. So...if you know of anyone, let him know.

We then talked about the Cliff Burton bass they had at the show last year. That bass had rosewood. So, when it first arrived in the U.S., CITES had not been implemented. However, when NAMM ended, CITES was in effect. They almost were not able to get that bass back to Japan. It took a very long time.
