Wireless system - low strings question

Hi,

I`m thinking of getting myself an wireless system. The as-of-now favored system, stops at 40 Hz as the lowest transmitted freq.. I found somewhere on the Internet that the D uses appr. 35 Hz, sooooooo....

Q: How will the Wireless (in this case a Sennheiser EW100 G2) affect the sound when pumping :bassist: that Low D, will anyone besides me notice? :confused:

Reason for asking: It`s about 200 bucks difference on this old system and a new EW172 G3 system which goes all the way down to 25Hz.
 
The bigger issue is that the EW 100 operates on the following frequencies and as of January 2010 the FCC has prohibited the use of some of these.
Range A: 518 to 554 MHz
Range B: 626 to 662 MHz
Range C: 740 to 776 MHz
Range D: 786 to 822 MHz
Range E: 830 to 866 MHz

The operation of wireless microphones and similar devices is prohibited from certain frequency bands for public safety reasons and commercial concerns. The sale of wireless microphones or similar devices intended for use in the United States in the 700 MHz Band was banned by the FCC in January 2010, and use of the devices in the 700 MHz Band was prohibited as of June 12, 2010. “Similar devices” include wireless intercoms, ear monitors, audio instrument links and cueing equipment.

The 700 MHz Band – between 698 and 806 MHz -- is now reserved for use only by public safety groups, such as police, fire and emergency services, and commercial providers of wireless broadband services. Use on broadcast bands outside of the 700 MHz Band was not affected by the ban, and can continue.
 
I think you are mixing apples and oranges. The string produces a sound wave of 25Hz. The wireless uses a radio wave. On a more practical note, my low B sounds just fine on a post-2010 wireless set.
 
to be honest do not buy a G2 system. spend the money and get the G3...the upgrade is worth it...i have the G3, and it is amazing. the low b on my bass comes out roaring.

im surprised that anyone is still selling the G2 systems (i am hoping used - if not then probably a fake)

the OP is from norway...this doesn't apply here...but the OP should still check proper operational frequencies anyway to make sure...could think of nothing worse then these guys showing up middle of the gig, and then on top of telling you to stop using the wireless give you a lovely fine on top of that! :bassist:
 
It's a roll off, not a brick wall filter. My Sennheisers G3 on the way out, and G3 on the way back to my IEMS are quite happy with my 5 string. As for G2 vs G3, the differences are small and technical, and I cannot hear an audio difference.

The digital switchover has impacted on radio systems almost everywhere, but Europe maintained a bank of free unlicensed space in the ch 70 segment. G2 can manage 4 channels in it, but G3 can manage 5 - that's really the difference.
 
the major difference as paul says is technical, but audibly not much in respect to speech. but the technology difference will substantial. the companding will be considerably less in the G3 series. i had a shure system that was at about 40hz (slx) and i had heard the companding happen. i suggest spending the extra cash!
 
Also, keep in mind that none of the wireless systems I have experience with (at least the affordable under $1200 or so units) sound as good as wired. Like the difference being discussed between the G2 and G3, the differences are not huge, but there is a difference in sound quality. That doesn't mean they should be avoided, but just understand that there is some cost in audio quality for the freedom that a wireless system gives you.

There's no free lunch, even in a $1000 lunch.
 
The Line 6 Relay wireless systems do a very good job of covering the entire frequency range. They are digital, so no companding issues/etc. And they operate in 2.4Ghz, so work worldwide. If you poke around here on TalkBass, and elsewhere on the web, you'll see they are generally well regarded.

I have a Relay G90, and it works quite well with my 5-bangers.

Line 6 is good - BUT - a cable still sounds better. That applies to every radio mic system at any price. There is conversion from the original, and then re-conversion at the other end. It doesn't matter if the system is all analogue or analogue and digital - the signal path from guitar to amplifier is so much cleaners without the wireless element. With the best electronics the sound is nearly the same as with a cable - but there is a measurable difference. That all said, many people cannot hear it. Doesn't mean it's not there though!

I am talking about systems many times the price and quality of the Line6 stuff: even top of the line professional Shure systems for example - stuff that costs thousands per unit.

The best systems sound the best, but wired still sounds just a little better.
