My deluxe active jazz bass came with the noiseless pickups I've grown to love and hate. The midrange boost is nice to have as it allows me to get some great tones outside the normal jazz american, but the drastic boost/drop that comes along with activating them from their comfortable middle notch position...I just can't take it anymore, the fail tone difference ruins everything.
It may seem petty but plugged into a '74 Ampeg silverface SVT CLSC at half volume it makes a HUGE difference.
I am trying to do this without spending a penny as a challenge. I work at the monster music retail chain and our accessories associate turned luthier has given me advice I know is wrong as hell. Please help me kick him back to pedals and strings where he belongs LOL!
I have the following simple questions:
1. I want to know...are any pots usable for the typical volume volume tone passive wiring?
2. I'm as technical as it gets but lack some key fundamental knowledge regarding pots. Can someone briefly explain to me how the pot's taper, type (alpha, cts, etc.), and resistance affect the circuit? I know how tone is impacted, I need more physics of the circuit so I may determine what is and is not possible. Not trying to damage anything.
3. Any suggestions on how I can pull off the passive wiring with any of the pots included in the active deluxe, PLUS I do have an extra 500K pot lying around. I know, 250K is better. I'm concerned with verifying what WORKS and what doesn't work, not tone.
