Wiring diagram for Ibanez pickups?

I'm installing a pair of Super J6 pickups from an Ibanez RB850 (acquired on eBay) onto another bass. I'm thinking of wiring them like this:

  • Each pickup to a DPDT on/on mini toggle switch to select between series and parallel
  • Both pickups then feed a blend pot
  • Output of blend pot to the master volume knob.
No tone control, as I'll probably just use a SansAmp / other gear for tone shaping.

I could use a little help with a couple of things:

  • What values of blend pots I should use - the pickups read about 9kΩ each.
  • What's the best way to wire the switches?
Thanks all!

The pots may be 250k or 500k, depending on preference.

Why not use an on/on/on switch, to get series/single coil/parallel?

Thanks! What effect on the sound would each have?

I thought of that (I think some Ibanezes had a 'tri-sound' option?) but I need it hum-free. If there was a way to switch in a dummy coil, maybe, but that would require getting someone to make one to match, a little costlier than what I'd like to spend unless I'm mistaken?

250k will be slightly darker (Less treble, because of increased loading on the pickups.) but it will have a slightly better taper.

The extra single coil option is just an added bonus, to have around when you want it, since you can use a three position switch instead of a two position switch, without any modifications or hassles.

I'm looking for more of a mid / low-mid sound so 250k might be good. For both the blend and volume?

Yeah, maybe I'll look into the extra dummy coil option - I think Fralin makes some.

5 cables.

Thanks
