Wiring diagram help for series/parallel push/pull

Let me preface by saying yes, I did a search. I have two Humbucking soapbar pickups I would like to wire up with two volumes, one tone, one three way switch with a push/pull to function as a series/parallel switch. I found two wiring diagrams that look like want I need, but I'm not sure the functions of the push/pull pots. I'm hoping someone can tell me from these:

The first diagram has series/parallel switches for each pickup. The second diagram has series/single coil switching for both pickups on the same switch.
