Both diagrams are the same. If it’s a passive bass you’re probably fine. Popping usually comes with an active circuit. Try your bass as is and test it with the amp volume low. If it pops let us know. It basically needs some resistors added at the switch.

FWIW, I've wired a such a kill switch on both basses I use in gigging...a passive J and a Yamaha PJ (also passive). My switches simply short the tip of the jack to it's sleeve when I want to be "off". Have had zero issues with either and it's super helpful to me to know I'm totally off. I play direct into the DI, and use no pedal board, thus I put the kill switch on each bass. No popping or other noise.

I redrew the post #2 diagram by moving the jumper wire from bottom contacts to middle contacts. This shows @joeLowB's method of shorting the tip of the jack to ground. One switch position adds a ground to the signal path (signal kill). The opposite position removes the ground (signal on). And the circuit's a bit easier to wire, so there's that LOL.

This is the widely accepted method for wiring a kill switch with a DPDT on/on, two position switch. An SPDT on/on can be also be used.
