Wiring problem: dead guitar. Cause..?

Someone recently gave me a "Series 10" MIK strat copy. Nothing special at all, but I want to clean + set it up and sell it.

The problem is, the guitar makes no sound. Can't seem to get any sound out of the pickups. If you jiggle stuff around there is some light crackling noises, but that's it.

I've lifted the pickguard and there is no visible damage, no broken solder joints... everything looks sound, honestly.

So what gives? Any idea why there's no sound at all? One pot seems broken... could that be it?

I'm not new to wiring but also by no means an expert. I do everything from diagrams...

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Unfortunately, wiring something up from a diagram, and understanding the circuit involved as well as the knowledge to troubleshoot it are two completely different skill sets.

And the diagnostic information that 'it doesn't work' makes it almost impossible to troubleshoot remotely.

I can probably help if you have a multimeter and a general idea of how to use it. I will give specific instructions and you report the results and together we may be able to diagnose the problem. First tell me a little more about the pot that "seems broken".

Also just a little more about the guitar. A strat style guitar? 3 single coil p/u's? 3 or 5 way switch? v/t/t controls? (These are typical of strat style guitars) I will need to know what style pick-ups and switches and the knob functions, etc. From there I can probably get you a wiring diagram and we can begin testing...
