Wisdom Teeth

The worst part is, my appointment is right after my last high school exam ever, so it's basically "Congratulations on finishing, now hold still while I rip apart your mouth."

:(
i got mine out about 4 years ago, i got mine out december 21rd. I couldn't eat christmas eve dinner! (or at least my mom wouldn't let me eat anything that couldn't fit through a straw) but i cheated and ate christmas day brunch...food never tasted so good :)

all i remember is getting the IV, the nurse asked me my name and i got to Ch...and the next thing i remember is the doctor asking me if i can stand up, and i say something along the lines of "mmmffefjaggasf" and i try to stand up, and no sooner do i stand up i make a dive for the ground...so they wheeled me to my mom's car and i slept for the next few days (almost straight) and then i remember walking to my school to go get my bass amp, and a teacher gave me a ride home...i enjoyed getting my wisdom teeth out :)

well I havent done wisdom teeth, but Im getting my second cavity done this week :( I thought it would hurt a lot more than it did, it actually didnt really hurt at all, just like the feeling with the drill that makes kinda feel cold, like air is getting in :\

I had mine out a few years ago. All four needed to go, and they hadn't grown in yet at all. The stuck an IV in my arm, I passed out (listening to I Wanna Be Sedated), and woke up after it was over. I had to have a bunch of cotton in my mouth for awhile cause of the bleeding. I was out for about 2 days, barely used my bottle of vicadin, and I was fine. 2 days of soup/liquid and maybe a week of just being careful. Watch out for chips, they can crush and the pointy parts go into the scarflesh...ouch. But not so bad. Good luck!

A couple of years ago I got one wisdom tooth pulled. Wasn't a problem at all.
Then earlier this year I got another one.... more complicated. It was not standing up, as teeth are supposed to. It was growing sideways, with its root towards my neck and its crown towards my mouth - right up against the next tooth. So it couldn't be pulled out just like that. And then, x-ray shows that its root has a hook on it, believe it or not. :)
So I got local anasthetics (sp?) and was sitting there for just under two hours, while she (the doctor) cut my wistom tooth to bits and removed it piece by piece. The only thing that hurt right afterwards, was my jaw joints. This was in my lower jaw, and there was quite a bit of brute force applied to get out the root that had a hook. Later on, it hurt a bit in different ways, but it all passed in the end (of course).
The hole had been sowed shut, so I came back a week later and had the sowing thread taken out.
All in all, no problems, although it was a rather complicated procedure. It's good to have a very skilled dentist.

I had mine done quite a few years ago, but I still remember it like it was yesterday.

Just kidding, mine was a piece of cake.

All four of mine were already through the gums and well developed so the doc suggested an IV. He said there was no reason for me to be there (awake) and I agreed.

First I went to a consultation at which time they showed me some twisted video on all the things that "could go wrong". Obviously they show you this just to get you worked up, either that or the doc was diddling the nurse at the time and needed to distract me.

Anyway,... I went in, got knocked out, and then woke up with four less teeth in my mouth. The whole process took about an hour. Just like ZGT, the first day is a little nasty changing your bloody gauze, but it's no big deal. I had very little pain. After the novocaine wore off I only took one of the pain killers they gave me. I had a little throbbing, but it was better than being stoned on codeine so I just took Tylenol.

For me the the worst part was eating. The bleeding lasted a couple of days and I had to make sure food did not get in the incisions. Other than that, is was as positive of an experience that particular experience can be I guess. The only part I could not figure out is why my pants were unbuttoned after the operation. Hmmm....

Good luck.

I've had 3 of mine taken out, no biggie, just hurts a bit more than a normal extraction... the 4th im absolutely dreading...

It's laying down, hasnt broken skin because of that, but its roots arent facing down, they go into the back of my jaw... that's going to be a bastard to take out.

And I've been told it needs to come out sooner rather than later....

Three to four hours after you're finished, you'll be well enough to post. Easily. Immediately if you only do local anasthesia.
Well, He said I'm not going to be unconscious, just loopy. Laughing gas - maybe that means local anasthesia (the kind where I don't NEED a ride home, whereas with the other one I would).

I got a funny review from a friend of mine today - He said that afterwards I would be so baked I wouldn't know what the hell is going on - he had a great time! :D

:hmm:

Ok, got back a little while ago. Overall, not too bad. Now let's see how the healing process goes. Anyways, here's the recap:

Went in. Started getting the gas. Laughing gas, so I wasn't knocked out, I was just loopy. Overall, a pretty good feeling. Doc comes in, gives me the freezing. That part hurts a bit, as he said it would, but nothing worse than what I get at the dentist. Anyways, after that's over I come off the nitrous and they wait for a few minutes for the freezing to kick in. In the meantime, they read me some guidelines for aftercare and such.

So now it's time. I get back under the nozzle, start getting a little loopy, and they start going at me. The first one hurt me a little, it was the worst, and after that they got better. Everytime he told me that there was going to be pressure, I took big breaths in through my nose, because I thought - "Here comes the pain, better get some more drugs in me just in case"! So after the second tooth, as I'm drifting in and out of consciousness, I realize that they are talking about the stupidest **** I have ever heard. So I lose interest. Then I realize "Holy Crap, I'm stoned in the Dentist's office!" and I try to become sober. Which gets me to start laughing. They got a kick out of this. Then I drifted back into dream land while they finished up. As the nurse was giving me gauze, I nearly bit off her fingers a couple times because I couldn't concentrate.

Then I left, and my buddy drove me back. On the way, I stopped for some painkillers. Now I just took one, replaced my gauze, and sat down.

Overall, not too bad. I'm more worried about the healing process. Plus eating, that's going to be tricky.

Mine bled for about two days, but if I remember correctly the second day wasn't bad at all. I know I went back to work the very next day.

The bleeding may depend on how deep you incisions are. Just keep some light pressure on the gauze if you can, it will probably take more than a couple of hours.

Welcome back! Congrats! I read the part of your post about being stoned in the dentist's office to my wife! She got a real kick out of that paragraph, as did I. Her only comment was, "I'm amazed that he can remember all this!"

I got all four pulled quite a while back. They put me under, totally, since a couple were impacted. They even gave me a valium to take before coming in that morning so I wouldn't be stressed about it. Worked for me! Glad that I didn't have to "live" through the hammering! Recoup took a while, but it was over Christmas and I got to stay home from work, which made it all worthwhile!;)

Take care of yourself! You'll do fine!

I had a somewhat negative experience getting my wisdom teeth removed. The recovery was really the worst part. I was off work for a week; in all kinds of pain; and terribly bruised.

They gave me laughing gas for a few minutes and then the IV with sodium pentathol (aka The Truth Serum!). The surgeon asked me what my favorite football team was and I wouldn't tell him. At that point I thought that was hilarious, of course.

I don't remember counting backward or anything else. The funny thing is that after I woke up the surgeon and nurses were telling me what my favorite football team is and talking about personal things that no one else in that room could have known! I only remember a few seconds here and there when I was getting out of the operating room, in the recovery room, in my mom's car (with a constant flow of blood collecting into one of those puke pans), and lying in bed watching boxing on HBO.

The next few days were pretty bad, but the narcotics they prescribed worked well. It was those in-between times that I wasn't allowed to take the next dosage that sucked.

Just finished a bowl of cream of mushroom soup - eating wasn't as hard as I thought. I'm afraid to chew, since I don't want food in the holes...meh, I'll take that plunge later. ;)

I'm going to go get some ice now...couldn't hurt to get the jump on the swelling. The bleeding has become minimal if anything, and they said that minor amounts of blood in saliva for the first 24 hours was normal. Got to go rinse with some salt water too...

The only thing is that I have a big headache. I took some tylenol, which is helping, but I really need some air. And I'll take another painkiller soon.

Not too bad - I spose the doc did a good job! :)
