Witch bass is best for me?

Take your money and spend it on an english tutor. Just messin' with you.

Either get the less expensive one and upgrade it later, or save your money for a little while and get the 775. Personally I would go with the latter. The second-hand market may also be a good idea for you.

are you buying this with your own money?

my advice is to hold onto whatever cash you have, and then use that and christmas/channukah/kwanza to milk the rest of the money for a better bass out of your family. that's what i did when i was your age. it works wonders.

option a. "why doesn't everyone chip in and get me the bass i *really* want and i'll not care if i don't get any more presents!

option b. "i want everyone to just give me money so i can take that and the money i already saved up and buy a really nice bass!"

note: this works for gear of all kinds; basses, amps, pedals, pickups - you name it. also don't limit yourself to the winter holidays. birthdays, easter [if you celebrate] heck, any time you could potentially be getting crap from people, it works.

I have an older RBX765A that I freaking LOVE. For cheap, it's a killer bass, IMO!

Tough question. It depends if you want your bass to be of the Wiccan variety, or scince you are into Metal maybe something from the Aleister Crowley faction of Dark Magick would be more to your liking. However do not confuse the pagan faith of Wicca with Satanism. As to which bass would suit you better in your musical conjurations I cannot advise you in such matters, but both are indeed very nice instruments. Okay, I couldn't resist making a joke over the title of the post. Either bass would serve you well with the right size amp to get you started.

yeah, run a collection for christmas, get to a guitar centre and play as much as you can. With the depreciation and current economy, I'd definitely wait a couple of months (even January and February, after christmas blow-outs) before making a move.

A good amp is also very important to getting a good sound, and power. But if you need something to get your teeth into, you can get a el cheapo in the meanwhile.

If you're playing metal, I personally think a good amp is more important than a good bass. With metal, you need an insanely powerful amp to cut through a gorilla-fisted drummer, dual guitars trying to outdo each other in loudness, and a vocalist who shouts at the top of his lungs.

As for the bass, I like Yamaha. IMO best entry level basses. I think the ESP B50 and the Ibanex GSR are great starter basses as well. Peavey has some good starters too, and some big, heavy, but loud combo amps at workingman prices. Although an SX + a good pro setup (SX are solid basses but play terribly out of the box) will leave you with extra money for a bigger amp.

If I see correctly the big difference between the two is scale length.

The 375 is 34" scale
The 775 is 35" scale

If your fingers are comfortable on the longer scale then by all means. The bottom end definition will be enhanced by the added string tension. I would definitely try a 35" scale bass in your hands before making that decision though. My fingers just aren't happy stretching that far and its better to know first how you feel on that fretboard than being sorry you should've picked the other later.

Also it looks like the 775 is discontinued and prices at Harmony Central suggest that you could pick up the 775 used cheaper than a new 375. But on the other hand eBay and a few other places I looked are void of very many/any to pick from. It may speak to how well people like them? dunno.
