Just a thought... do any respected metal bassists actually play pointy BC Rich-style basses anymore? I mean, thinking through the current cream of the crop of metal bass...

The only ones I can think of are Paolo Gregoletto of Trivium and John Moyer from Disturbed... and I'm not sure they count as metal.

Yeah you're right. I want a Spector 5 string bass like Webster's too but it's too expensive. The cheaper I found was arround 1.200 euro ( 1.600 $ ).
I have a mid-80's US made BC Rich ST that I played for years, mostly just because it was a Rich. The thing weighs a ton and I never got a good tone out of it.
You might also want to look at LTD\ESP. They make very good instruments for a reasonable price. My TA-600 is the stuff!

Not quite the full Euro5, but, still, far better than the BC Riches of this world - Spector Performer 5, 433 from Thomann.

I think Trivium is metal! But I don't like BC Rich either.
For your price range, I think you just have to get something second hand you know you could sell for the same. Cause you can be sure you'll want something better sooner than later.
