wondering about strings for a 36" scale.

Hey guys, I am planning out a custom build bass at the moment, and am thinking that a 36" scale would be nice... I really like the positioning on my ex factor E string (with the extension its 36" scale) but was wondering if anyone other than D'addario makes strings that will work on a 36" scale...

Hate to start my builder on the project and find out i am severly cramped for string choices! I have checked websites but they are mostly vague about whether their strings will workon longer than 35"

i know that Ken Smith strings will generally work on extended scales

Elixir and DR Strings will work with plenty of margin to spare.

Some DRs might not, but most string makers have what they call Extra Long sets.

See if you can dredge up specs on your fave brands; most strings have a 2" distance from the ball end to where any taper would start. If the strings are wound out to 38" beyond the ball end you should be good to go.

Carvin's strings worked on my 35" through-body bridge, but their pretty bright. Cheap though...

The TI jazz flats come in super long and I bought a set for a through the body P bass. I ended up wrapping beyond the silk, into the regular metal wrap part on the E string tuner, even though it was through body. Should work. Call to confirm. 50.00 at best so don't experiment.

The normal length TI JFs are long enough for a 35" scale bass, so I'd be really surprised if the extra long set didn't make it one more inch. Actually, I think I read on a Dingwall thread that the extra longs TIs work on the 37" Dingwall low B. (Of course, the OP didn't say if he prefers flats or rounds, so this may be a moot point.)
