Wondering the value?

I started playing bass in 1978 after a bad divorce in which I ended up with the house and all the bills. I had no money to go out and drink, so I decided a one time purchase of a bass would give me all the entertainment I needed. My intention was to teach myself by playing to records. I purchased a 1974 Fender Jazz in used condition, when EMG pickups and Badass bridges were the hot upgrades. As life would have it, I ended up with an amazing career spanning 25 years. I switched to 5 string in 1982 so this bass has been locked up for manny years. My question is what is the value of my 74 Jazz now. The bridge is long gone along with the stock pickups. The frets have been dressed 2 times and it could stand a refret. My question is, what do you suppose the value is, and is it worth refretting with me being a 5 string player? Any positive comments would be

appreciated.

Nice looking Jazz Bass. Even with the mods it could still be in the 2 to 2.5k range IMHO, more if it's a light one.

With the replaced parts, I would put it right around the same as Dluxe suggested... ~$2300 real world value. But with a refret needed, I’d put it at $1800-$2000.

Wondering a good starting point for replacement parts? Worried about the impression that the Badass bridge might leave.

I have any and all of the vintage parts to restore this bass (pickguard, pickups/controls, knobs, bridge and string tree). Send me a PM if you’d like to talk more about it.

If yer bangin’ 5’ers, it’s always worth having a reliable 4 string bass around. Even having a well done refret would not really diminish value as a working-instrument. You may end up with some gigs where it just shines.

I do mean a well done professional, don’t $kimp on co$t fret job. It will retain its value.
