Wonderous Stories

Squire used a Jazz, a Ric, a fretless (Awaken) and an 8 string Ric (GFTO song) on that album. Squire used a Jazz on Parallels. The bass on Wonderous Stories has a long sustain and sounds different from the bass on Parallels, so he highly likely used a Ric.

Good lord... all of these years I have wanted to get "that amazing Ric tone he had on Parallels" that I love so much and it turns out it was recorded with a Jazz?!? LOL! How about that!?

Turn Of The Century - Tobias 40" 4-string tuned to C-E-A-D

I've heard conflicting reports of what bass was used on "Turn Of The Century" (and not just in this thread!) Some say the 40" Tobias, some say the Gibson Les Paul Triumph. Anyone have a definitive source?

Awaken - the 3-neck bass previously used by Roger Newell with Wakeman's band

My understanding is that the Wal triple-neck bass was used for live performances only, to recreate what Squire achieved with three separate instruments on the original album recording of "Awaken"
...but I'm not sure what those three separate instruments were. Presumably the fretless was the same Guild he'd used on side two of Tales From Topographic Oceans ...maybe?

I've read the triumph was used on tour of the century, though I cannot sight the source at the moment. Did the 40" to bias even exist in 1977?

So the variety lineup seems to be:
Going for The One - Rickenbacker 8-string prototype, played live on Ramsay 8-string
Turn Of The Century - Tobias 40" 4-string tuned to C-E-A-D
Parallels - Fender Jazz
Wonderous Stories - Rickenbacker
Awaken - the 3-neck bass previously used by Roger Newell with Wakeman's band
Hmmm, I saw the Going for the One Tour, was in the first 10 rows. I recall him playing the white 8-string Ric on Going for the One at the show I saw.

Turn of the Century was DEFINITELY The Les Paul Triumph on record! Most notably needed for the UPPER fret access given courtesy 24 frets. The Tobias was built late 80s early 90s and was used in subsequent performances of Turn of the Century....I don't think it was tuned down to C though. The need was higher notes, not lower ones.
