Woo-Hoo! Rickenbacker pickup ring that looks good!

Actually, what RIC did was replace their Horseshoe pick up (like this), where the horseshoe is the actual magnet, for a normal "Toaster" pickup. The cover is intended mainly to give the bass the original pick up's look. I have a 1/8" flat black stripe across the center of the cover on my '73 4001; you have to look hard to tell it's not the real thing... As for the claim that the cover provides some shielding? Well.. the cover does actually have a layer - a very thin layer - of copper under the chrome, so.. yeah, it probably does provide "some" shielding. In the same sense that a shot glass full of water, dumped into an empty 5 gallon bucket, is "some" water....

Actually, they replaced the Horseshoe pickup with a "high-gain" pickup starting in 1968. They never put a "Toaster" pickup in the bridge/treble position. Later on, the "vintage" models got a "faux horseshoe" pickup that was basically a reimagined High-gain pickup with non-magnetic "shoes."

If you're looking for the real deal, you're going to be looking for a while and it's going to be expensive, but if you just want something to mount the rear pickup to, you can either make one yourself from pickguard material or get on Tony at pickguardian, who does great work: Rickenbacker RPUP/RPUG Combo…Buy Both & Save! | Pickguardian
