Double Bass Wood for linings?

Does anyone have wood species suggestions for the linings of a bass? I can not find willow wood at the local lumber yards and was looking for some alternatives.

I've put poplar linings in some violas of mine. Found some pieces at Home depot, if you can believe it, that were really light. And it bent nice and easy, as well. If you like hunting down the alleys of the industrial district, pallet racks are often made out of willow, btw. ( not joking )

I've heard that pallets can also be found that are made of pearwood. Pearwood is often used by makers who like to maker their own purfling.

+1 on the Home Depot Poplar, I made a 3/4 Gamba garland out of it!

no pun intended..basswood...(pronounced like the fish) your sitting in the heart of linden country...overlooked most of the time,straight clear grain easily bent or straight as an arrow. you know those fine wooden Venetian blinds...basswood...yardsticks..." "
Check any planning mill in your area all you really need are the edgings off the straightline rip. fill your truck for $5. get some basswood,yellow poplar,white ash,etc

We have 4 species of willow down here black, weeping, corkscrew and my personal favorite.. p*ssy The pulp mill won't accept ANY willow for paperwood... i can't say enough about the tree but haven't found anything endearing about the wood. my 2 goodluck.
