Wood & Tronics Club

Hi guys and congratulations for your W&T basses, like I said in a earlier post I think they really are awesome instruments. A question for you W&T owners: on the single cut basses (Chronos, Zoid, etc), can you obtain all the classic J-bass fenderesque sounds? I am pretty confident the bolt-on EJ series can cover the Jaco and Miller thing pretty well, what about the single-cut dual coil basses?

Hmm that's a difficult one... I guess the ones that have traditional wood trim ash alder maple rosewood would definitly come close to that fenderesque thing. The pickups are also where fender puts them on most models so the tone color would be about the same. The bass I owned and the ones \I played had walnut bodies with multi laminated necks.
Bridge burp and slap tones are definitly there and also they arn't sterile or thin, those tones have great character and resonance to it but maybe a different more complex color to the tone.

this is an example of the slap tone of a Zoid with walnut body.
This kind of music is not my cup of tea but it shows the bass slaptone really well I think. It's like the marcus tone but then.... BETTER:D

Hey Giovabass, the fact that Vincenzo's Zoid can mimic the Marcus pretty well despite being a through neck six string, totally different than a Marcus Fender, is not really so surprising. If you go back a couple of pages in the thread and read what I wrote about pickups and pickups placement, you will see that a luthier with skills (and using GREAT pickups, for that mattter) can actually manage that.

And, I would add, despite the 26-frets  Yeah, definitely a great work, kudos to Enrico and Erik! :bassist:

Yo Jefe! You can come tool around on mine anytime. We still need to get up for that hang soon, and theres another AVL bass hang in the works! Did you sell that fEarful? I'm thinking about picking one up if I can move my EW

I did sell it. I got one of those Avatar TB153 (fEarful style design with the 3015lf). It's a better one cab solution for my needs. Keep me posted on the bass hang.
P.S. Thanks for sending my name to your friend about their project! We are in talks.

Talking about cabs I just got myself a 12" ultra light cab from Epifani and toghether with the Glock Soul thats just the best thing I ever heard! I had a visit to Station Music in Germany they have about every brand of bass gear out there so I got the great chance to a/b every possible cab with my amp, this was the best combination I could possibly get.

Cant wait to plug in teh W&T when it arrives1:D

I'm sure thats a great rig!! Let us know how you like the new WT when it comes in! What kind of jazz pickups and preamp are in it?

how are you liking it?

I'm waiting on some new pups for mine, made by Haussel to replace the Dolf dual coils i currently have. Hopefully shipping this week, if not already in transit. There is a noise issue that we've finally figured out is coming from the pickups, and Enrico has been wonderful about helping troubleshoot, and replacing the faulty set. Big Ups to W&T customer service!

Just wanted to mention as well that there are a couple of W&T's available right now through luthiers access group here in the Chicago area. Theres a chronos 5 thats really similarly configured to my 6 (poplar on walnut, ash/maple neck, alder tone block), and the chronos 5 that I reviewed for Bass Musician Mag, almost a year ago. That was the bass that turned me on to W&T, whoever ends up with that bass is in for a treat! Its a total monster..

Dolph dual coils and the SP2 with added passive tone control...
Or do you mean the EJ I posted pics from?

Nice, thats a great sounding combo.. I wish that my Sp2 had a passive tone control, but I get along fine without it most of the time.

Ok Haussel has great pickups I had them on a former bass. They where very throaty and very atriculate maybe a bit mid scooped where I think the Dolf's are deeper in sound.
I ve heard a set on a W&T before and I'm even asking myself what is the better pickup to be honest. I know from Enrico there where some hickups with the distribution of the Dolf pickups, if there would be a problem on the current build I have no problems swapping to Haussels aswell.

About the tone control on the SP2 I'm guessing it's no problem to add it later, but apperantly it's not possible to get the extra pot in a stacked config.

Great bass Venusio! and welcome to the Wood & Tronics Club!

Take care
