WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOO

well guess what people?! tomorrow i am ordering myself a Squire Vintage modified Jazz Bass. I am not going to buy an amp i am going to buy a 1/4 inch adapter and use it on my computer to play. this was a suggestion from another player on this forum. I just wanted to double check is the Vintage Modified Jazz bass http://www.theperfectbass.com/explo...102811101&W=STORE&P=N&S=1001081&U=1&SS=1&CR=Y is good for a begginer? thanks!

hmm never heard of that idea
im pretty sure i have the cord to do that - did you buy software for it or is there a free program you run?

No software is really necessary. I do that sometimes when I want to play along with a song and it's late and I don't want to wake people up. I just plug into the mic input. All you need to do is make sure the output for your mic isn't muted (that'll be in your computer's audio settings), and you'll be able to play thru your speakers.

The downside is you can't EQ or anything... though I suppose you could get some software to do that. I imagine there would be some "virtual amp" kind of software.

your going to blow your speakers LOL.. Their not meant to play that kind of bass, plus the impedance is all wrong...

Do yourself a huge favor an buy a amp..

Do you play regularly through your computer?

Get an amp. Seriously. When I first started playing a long time ago, I tried to plug my bass into the mic input on a boom box.

Get an amp. Even a little amp.

Do you?

I have tryed it and it sounds horrible its matched impedance for a microphone not a guitar or a bass for that matter. It does sound horrible and taking into consideration that money is enough of a issue that he cant afford the amp, im going to go out on a limb and say he doesnt have speakers sufficient enough to handle the stress its going to put on them..

Huh, we must have some differing equipment then. My bass sounds just fine when I play through my computer. You just have to make sure you know how to use your sound card software. As long as you set it right, it doesn't sound half bad. Of course just plugging in and playing right from the get-go isn't going to get you amazing tone... for that, you have to fiddle around with your software.

And that is a good point about the speakers; mine (esp. the subwoofer) pump out bass like it's nobody's business... but I have some fairly nice, pricey speakers.

Do you play at gig-level volumes through your computer?

Did you read the OP's other thread? All he wanted was something little to play in his bedroom while he saved up for a bigger amp suitable for a band setting. Playing on the PC will allow him to do just that. It doesn't take a genius to know that he won't be able to crank it up to 11 and rattle the windows.

Line6 UX1 + Good monitors or headphones = nice setup for whatever you throw at it, plus all the modeling on it is both fun and cool. Seriously that thing and the software can keep you entertained for hours.
