WORDS AND EXPRESSIONS COMMONLY MISUSED

I don't know how often I've seen many of those misused... I'm not sure how they'd be misused in many cases.

Looks like a comma was omitted. Maybe he meant "It's two (words), people".

Hmmm.... do I put the period inside the quotation mark or outside?

Now here's an example of my pet peeve. "I'm anxious to get my new bass". Why would I be anxious about that? "I'm eager to get my new bass" would be the correct choice. Unless of course I had spent way too much, and was going to have to hide the bass from my wife. Then I might be anxious about getting a new bass.

They do only if the quote is a full sentence. If the quote is a fragment or incomplete thought, then the the period would go outside the quotes.

Another mistake concerning quotes that many people make is putting the comma outside the quotes when the subject that made the quote is directly after the quote. For example, the correct way would be: "Periods always go in the quotes.," said Defeldus. Also, if the quote is preceded by the word that, then there is no use of a comma. i.e. Defeldus said that "Periods always go in the quotes."
