Worlds most famous bass?

Is it the Jaco 'Bass of doom'? That would be my guess, just read on here it was recovered. Just wondering if it is the most famous? Or would it be McCartneys Hoffner? Most significant for me would be Berry Oakleys Tractor bass.

Or the mighty 'Mothman'? hehe...

THE most famous bass, without a doubt, is the Fender P. People who have never touched a musical instrument in their lives know it on sight.

The Hofner violin is probably number two, mostly thanks to Paul McCartney.

Paul's Hofner, hands down. Pick 100 people randomly. How many of them will recognize Jaco's bass? Maybe a few. I bet at least 30 will recognize Paul's bass.

Well, then we're all kiddin' ourselves here. Most won't even know it's a bass or better yet, the difference between a bass and a guitar. "You mean that funny looking guitar with less/bigger strings?" :D

:hiding:

I have read that McCartneys Hofner was considered like the fourth or fifth most famous guitar on the planet, and the first bass. Plus EVERYONE knows who McCartney is, really only bass players, musicians, and real deep music afficianados know who Jaco is.

I think Jamerson's Funk Machine should at least deserve mention in this topic.

I think it's McCartney's Hofner to the average person on the street. Lots of images of this bass with one of the most popular bands of all time. Most people don't know who Jaco and Jamerson were let alone their basses. Funk Brothers...who were they??? Hmmm the guys responsible for a ton of the Motown hits in the 60s.

A lot more people know who Jaco is than you think. Certainly he's not as famous as a Beatles, but then again, who is besides maybe Jimi Hendrix or someone like that? :hyper:

Well the title says "World's" which I take as the general population so I have to say Paul's. However if I was offered Paul's or Jaco's it would be easy. The 62 Jazz!!
PS - Geddy's Ric or Jazz would have to up in the top 5 IMO.
