I wonder how the Iconoclast stacks up to the Omnicabsim? Anyone have any experiences with both?
Tried the HBE Baja Mos clean boost in front of the VMT. Works great! Not sure why I didn't try this before. This will be my new combo on the board. No need for the Beta ...
My Seymour Duncan studio bass compressor arrived, but I'm still waiting on my patch cables for it.

The setting examples in the manual are actually pretty good places to start. I started off with the punch rock setting. And modified it to taste as I became more familiar with the pedal.
Not surprised the VMT "improved" with stacking...
I'm somewhat new to dirt pedals, but have already learned that "stacking" dirt is key to great tone...and achieving an overall lower noise floor. Kinda enjoying the process of figuring out what to stack, and which order sounds best!

Yeah, I played with both the VMT and the Beta DLX for a while, and the VMT was clean to very light OD, whereas the Beta wouldn't graduate towards clean without putting it in bypass. And I found I can get clean to light to heavier OD with the boost pushing the VMT, without a baked in tone. And that's really what I was looking for ...

I like a bit of "tube" dirt that I can get with the Darkglass VMTD and stack it with the much greater level of OD from the Factotum. I subbed at another church where they had a much more "rock" vibe and the more overdriven sound worked really well for 3 out of 5 songs.

I am just starting my pedal journey but I have an Ampeg SCR-DI that ROCKS and a Korg Tuner with a Strymon Mobious on the way from Sweetwater. I'm looking at getting a Pog 2 here shortly as well. Will post a pic when I get up and running.
What are some cool applications for modulation effects in worship? What are some songs I could use a phase shifter? Does anyone use tremolo? Do y'all usually use effects for a bridge or a chorus instead of the whole song? I'd like to hear your advice and tips on the utilization of effects in worship music.

I'll give my two cents:
For the longest time I used nothing. Just my amp with a direct out and a tuner. And really that's all you NEED. Well, I could technically get by with just a direct box. Everything else is just icing on the cake.
Then I joined a church where NOBODY used amps. Not even the guitarists. And I needed to switch gears a bit. But that opened a rabbit hole I continue to fall down in the quest for the ever-elusive "perfect ampless tone," as going ampless seems to be the trend in mid-sized churches.
I started with a trusty tuner. Added a compressor, and settled on an Aguilar Tonehammer pedal as my main tone. Shortly thereafter I added a Darkglass VMT for a little grit at times. That was it for me, or so I thought.
Then I started looking for better drive tones. Traded the Tone Hammer for a VT Bass DI, and settled on an Aguilar Agro overdrive pedal. That was the last setup I played in church, and was plenty for my needs.
Theeeeennnnnn, I left the church (well, THAT church) and haven't played in a couple of years. So everything from here on is purely theoretical.
Things got really hairy when I was trying to put together an '80's cover band that never came together. But in the process I added an octaver, a bass wah, a chorus, and another speaker sim. Though the 80's project never materialized, I can see myself using the stuff I bought in a worship setting, if only occasionally. I've always been a fan of chorus on slower, mellow bridges, ending or beginning vamps, or filler music when someone is talking/praying. I'm a child of the 80's, so chorus is in my blood.
I'm going to need to find a way to incorporate the octave and wah into a worship set, but I think it will happen. The combination of the sub and up octave, the overdrive, and the chorus makes for an absolutely killer synth tone. And then add the wah and it sounds absolutely ridiculous. In a good way. Not sure when/if I'd ever use any of it. Maybe some Hillsong Young and Free stuff or Jesus Culture, but I'll find a place. It's so fun. But first I need to find another church to play at.

My pedalbaord at this point is:
TC Electronics Polytune Noir tuner
Markbass Compressore
Homebrew Electronics Baja Mos (clean boost)
Darkglass Vintage Microtubes (overdrive)
Neunaber Expanse (programmable delay)
Markbass Super Booster (DI)
This will all be powered by a Strymon Ojai R30 on a Metro 24 board (moving from Road Runner Pedalboard Gig Bag/power strip/wall warts).
I've found with the clean boost I can push the VMT from clean to light overdrive and into heavier overdrive if needed.
The Neunaber Expanse will do reverb, shimmer, echo/delay, chorus, flanger/phaser, freeze and some combinations, depending on what it's currently programmed for. With a connected device (windows tablet, etc) it can be updated to perform another function in 3 seconds.
I have used chorus when appropriate on slower songs. I have also used reverb. It would be nice to have an octave pedal. When I do it would likely be a Cog Effects T-16.
I have had a Zoom B3 multi effects, which was cool, but sold it for better pedals.
I am also considering replacing the Markbass Super Booster with a Radial Stagebug SB-1 phantom powered active DI.
At this point, the only other thing I might consider down the road, is a cabsim pedal. Either the Omnicabsim, or the Iconoclast. The Iconoclast is smaller, but the Omnicabsim has a larger following.
Oh, and a high pass filter, and that's all.

I used to play (rock/grunge) bass in the 90s but I now play mostly guitar (jazz and p&w). I've picked up bass again and have a PJ bass (I play mostly the P) with flatwound strings that I use for P&W at my church.
I've been playing mostly with just a compressor to a preamp to PA but I wonder if I could use some of my guitar pedals to "improve" my basic tone. I'm mostly wondering about delay or reverb but I'm open. When I used to play bass I would just use a Muff and that doesn't feel appropriate here this is my guitar board, the most flexible piece obviously being the MS-3, thoughts, ideas?

My wife is traveling for business...so was able to spend a lot of time yesterday a/b'ng the dirt area of my board, and ended up with this for now...

While the CAL Holy Fire 9 is going back, the CAL MK.4.23 clean boost (buffered version) is a keeper. It's extremely transparent, and when desired...can send my MBD-1 into various levels of break-up (MBD-1 tone still reigns supreme for my ear...)
I wanted to keep my AOm on the board, but honestly preferred the MBD-1 over-driven tones—pushed by the clean boost.
That said, I might grab a VMT again, when they come out with an updated version (like the AOm)...if you follow DG new product cycles, ya know it must be coming!

I like to stack the OD - I use a VMTD to get just a little hair on the sound (usually into a Streamliner 900 to an Accugroove El Whappo) and then switch in the OD from a Factotum mas distortion. Are you sure you can't bring the OD on the A/O down to what you want? I was listening to a lot of guys using it at NAMM and there were some guys getting a sound just a little bit more than I use with the VMTD. I do have to say, the Super Symmetry into the VMTD are my only always on pedals.
