True enough. Like I've said before, most of us do it for ourselves. The average person doesn't notice or care.
I go in stages. I'm good with my direct tone for a while, Then I decide I need some pedals. Then after a while, I decide that my tone straight to the amp is better. Then I decide that I need some overdrive again. And then I decide that my clean tone is better again. And a lot of it depends on the gig and how much gear I feel like schlepping.
