Worst bass shipping story

So many moons ago I bought a purple Yamaha JM2 bass on ebay from a guy that Ive bought things from before so I know he's good for it. Well it comes to my door at the expected day and the package initially looked fine...until I opened it and observed the bass was broken in 2. I was so upset because I had been looking for that bass for a few years and it arrived irreparable. So as a form of coping with this minor ptsd, what are some of your worst stories about transporting you bass (either selling/buying or simply going to a gig). I cant wait to read some of your experiences!

I bought a Hagstrom 8 string re-ish from a fellow TB'er who packed it well, shipped it insured and it came in with the neck in splinteres. Then USPS jerked me around and I had to appeal my claim. They finally paid off by the local postmaster going to bat for me. So I have a perfectly beautiful body with no neck. Sigh.

If there was no damage to the package, then how can you blame the shipping company for shipping it on time and undamaged?

Since you bought it on ebay, then file a paypal dispute and get your money back. IF the package was damaged in shipping, then the seller will have to file an insurance claim.

I told the seller with photos and everything and he understood so that is exactly what we did. It was just a bummer that we had to go through that because we both wanted to enjoy the transaction (him getting paid for a well loved instrument and me receiving an awesome tool).

So you get your money back and the seller gets the insurance money. Sounds like a win-win for everybody except the shipping company that didn't damage the package.

Not really. A really good bass was damaged beyond repair because of the shipping. Both the seller and regretted making the choices we did because if he didnt sell or if I didnt buy, The bass would most likely be playable.
