Worth getting a Bongo if...?

You already have a Stingray & a Sterling?

As you can tell I love Music Man. In fairness I'm thinking about a 5 (my current basses are both 4s).

My understanding is that the Bongos give you that Music Man goodness, but more "dial in range". Opinions appreciated.

Bongos sound very good, with definite punch to em. As you said, you already KNOW you love MM basses, and since your new bass will be a 5, it's a more than reasonable purchase. Plus, although to me they look a bit strange, I must admit they are stylish.

This eBay ad indicates that the Bongo is "aerodynamic." Is that really one of the selling points?

Are you expected to throw it? Fly it? Is there a propulsion system available? Remote control?

Are we currently kicking the s**t out of al-Qaeda and the Taliban using hordes of remotely-operated Bongos screaming in at them from out of the sun to whack 'em on the head?

At the very least, if you're a guitarist in a band where the bassist plays a Bongo, you'd better know to be on your best behavior!

This is more than a little intriguing.

If I had the choice of any of the 5-string Music Man basses, a Bongo 5 H/Sp (Humbucker at the bridge/Single-Coil at the neck with piezo pickups) would absolutely be my pick: the ton of "controlled power" from the 4-band low/high-mids EQ mated to the Neo-loaded pickups, a beauty of a neck in terms of shape, thickness and overall specs, and a very cool body design that says "now" as opposed to "1950's/60's"... and this coming from someone who very much loves the general J-bass look and owns two "Modern" Jazz basses. It's just nice to see a company make a forward-thinking body, much like Parker did on the guitar side of things. Plus, it's one of the best 34"-scale B-strings made *period*, production line bass or high-end custom.

Have it delivered to a buddy's house, have him bring it over to yours when wifey is home, and have him tell you something like "Thanks for letting me borrow it, but I've hardly touched it in the last year and I just have no time to try learning to play. I figured I'd bring it back until I can find some free time to put into it".

Problem solved.

It's good. Only thing is I've been married 11 years. So it will have to be something like; "Thanks for letting me borrow this clearly brand new bass for the past 12 years". Hmmm..

What the hell I'm going to give it a try.
