Would this change be too drastic?

I've been on the hunt for a low-tension set of strings for my 6er and figured I'd give TI jazz rounds a go. Thing is, I'd prefer to not have to experiment with different gauges ($120-ish for a set), so I was hoping someone could help steer me in the right direction.

I am currently using Dr Fat Beams (.030-.125), which feel tighter than I'd like. Would I be making a mistake jumping straight to the TI .029-.118, or should I opt for the same gauge I currently use and simply rely on the "inherent looseness" of the TIs?

I doubt I'll be able to get around buying multiple sets and "feeling it for myself," but any wisdom is greatly appreciated! :)
