Would This JBL Cab Work For Celestion Pulse 15's?

I have this JBL 2x15 cab that currently houses D140's, but I'm thinking of getting some higher 400 watt Celestion Pulse 15 speakers for it to run with my Orange AD200 amp.

After a bit of research, it seems the ideal volume for a single Celestion P15 would around 3.5 - 4 cubic feet, so 7 - 8 cu ft in a 2x15 cab seems logical, perhaps.

The JBL cab is 39.5" x 23" x 18", with two ports that are 8" deep and 5" wide, so 9.64 cu ft total (including the ports), or 4.82 cu ft per speaker.

So, am I nitpicking, or is this going to be too boomy with less than optimum power handling? If so, what would be some appropriate speakers for it that would go well with the Orange amp?

Absolutely no way to know without doing the math.

Cabinet volume is only one parameter in how well it will perform. The porting system is just as important.

According to Celestion, from another post, for a single Pulse 15 in a 110 L (3.5 cu ft) cab they recommend 2 ports at 5.90" deep and 3.94" wide each, so if I were doubling that, it would seem to come up a bit shy with what's on there now.

IIRC, those boxes were meant to be permanently installed PA cabs, I'm sure you've noticed a lack of portability features. The side mounted input jack plate(which looks to have already been messed with)is curious.

Right. Upon furthur investigation, it's a JBL 4648 subwoofer cab loaded with JBL 2226 drivers designed for movie theaters. It does have casters, but it's definitely a little on the weighty side. I got it empty for $50.

It's an ok deal if you take the casters and leave the cabinet. (Only if they are good casters).

I don't think the porting info you got is terribly accurate either, but I haven't done the math.

My WinISD simulation shows slightly different results.

With what should be "normal stuffing" (Qa = 10) and a larger sealed box than yours (90 lt = 3.18cuft) the f3 is 67Hz (still great, mind you). You really need EQ to get down to 60Hz or so (let's say that my ideal bass response should be around that of the SVT 8x10" or so) but with a high impedance power amp (8 ohms or so) you get a nice 3-4dB bump around 80Hz, which would help making the bass sound fat without being overly forward (low midbass peak).

Vented: volume – 110 litres, ports 2x 100mm diameter, 150mm length"

I also input the speaker specs into this cab calculator but it seemed pretty off, giving me 10.82 cu ft for a single ported box.

There is a range of cabinet volumes per driver and a range of port dimensions per driver, not one single value. The two go hand in hand for each driver.
