Would you buy a bass without trying it out due to it impossible to try?

Got G.A.S (it physically hurts lol) but a trouble for me is not so much getting over it, but the fact if I wanted to try a bass out, it is impossible. Why? It's a headless, so that already narrows it down, 2) It's a Strandberg bass, so not only would it be uncommon, but to be able to try it out would mean you'd have to find someone or some store selling it (which would not be possible since Strandberg does not have a physical store you can just walk into, ask for their $2k bass, and try it out)

But my question to you TB'ers is, would you ever buy a bass without trying? Would you look into it heavily, research everything about it, perhaps even see if their are any artists related to the genre you play who use it, and have that be your decision? Does G.A.S plague you, if so how did you psych-yourself out of it?
My number one was bought on eBay without having touched one before, but damn am I glad I did it. Just know the risk that you could end up disappointed

I own five basses.
Four were bought without me getting to try them out.
It's a gamble, but a safe bet if you know what you're doing.

Check out Kiesel if you want an awesome headless. You get a 10 day trial to see if headless is for you, plus they cost about half of a Strandberg :)

That was exactly what I did, I wasn't sure if I would like headless so I ordered a Kiesel for the trial. Luckily it took me about 20 minutes to realize it had already become my favorite bass. And this is coming from a guy who also has various Roscoes, Warwicks, and USA Spectors!

I have before, but I wouldn't take a chance on a $2000 bass made in a way I've never tried before. I figure if I can afford a $2000+ bass and I was interested in something brand new in concept to me rather than what I consider a sure thing, I'd either make sure it's got an excellent return policy and I'd buy it only with the understanding I can return it within 30 days for a full refund if I don't love it and make sure the seller knew how picky I am, otherwise I'd make an effort to drive or fly out to check it out if it wasn't too much for a trip. Either way I'd do tons of research.

Most of what I’ve been buying these last five or six years is unusual, long out of production, or privately owned. So I usually don’t have a choice.

I’ll be the first to recommend you try before you buy. But if that’s not possible, about all you can do is take a carefully considered risk.

It’s worked out well for me so far. But I do my homework, and know what I’m shopping for. And after awhile you learn to trust your gut instincts. If anything ever feels off or doesn’t sound right, I walk.

You just pre-emptively plagiarized everything I had to say in this thread.

Yes, I have tried a bass that was impossible to try, in that, this instrument was "impossible" to try unless you ordered it.
The bass I talk about mostly is my Epiphone Jack Casady.
When I became interested enough to buy a Jackbass, I couldn't find one in a store within I don't remember how many miles, so I ordered one from Musiciansfriend, and then, I got a crazy deal there of $450!
This is the truth!
The gold and black ones were $719, if I remember correctly, and they were blowing out the sunbursts ones at $450!
This was late 2000, I bought my bass, it was delivered, and I've been in love with it since then.
This was the first, but not the only instrument I've tried sight/unseen, sound/unheard.
I recommend it to anyone.
Do it!
Be brave, young man/woman!
You see that limb?
Mike

I have. 3 times. Good experience all 3. They were informed decisions and not impulsive.
My choice is more so
