I have both a Ric4003 and a P bass deluxe.Money aside, I say like most everybody else 'keep the Ric". My P basses are like power-tools where-as Rics of any era are works of art.

The Ric bridge pickup soloed and run through the Ric-O-Sound jack with a mono plug (so it becomes a VT circuit) really mimics some of the P Bass sound with a bit more clarity and less honk so you can always try that as an internal approximate. Roll the tone off and it begins to cop that Pino Palladino kind of thing. I'm sure some are shaking their heads but I've done this on many a gig.

The ricks a much better bass imo, even with mods and all.
