Would you ever tell off another person's child?

I tell off other people's children all the time. Like my telemarketers, spouse, friends, commuters, customer service reps, co-workers, enemies, acquaintences, strangers, etc.

And now, I am telling off all of you.

YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOUR BEHAVIOR!
GO TO YOUR SEAT AND SIT QUIETLY! NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:D

Well, would you? I'm tallking about in any situation, such as if you're on the bus and you see a screaming child misbehaving or on the street.
Have and will again. Mostly the cheeky neighbourhood kids who do things like climb our fence to look over, or loiter out on the road almost causing accidents or being hit by cars, stealing things from my front yard etc.

I attribute society's need to scold other people's children to bad parenting, as my children know better than to disrespect people's property or use the road as a playground.

Of course, if you're not protecting your own property and children, or looking out for those childrens' safety, you have no right to do scold children that aren't your own, and if a parent is within earshot of you attempting it, expect a reaction. Usually a bad one.

i've yelled "SHHHH!!!" really loud and that works pretty well...and they usually don't figure out it was me. and a couple times i've turned my head and yelled "shut the hell up!" i turned my head so if the parents did realize where it came from they'd think it was actually my buddy. :D

I think this should be the norm. Seriously, we need to pass some social vigilante laws that not only make this behavior acceptable, but expected.

For example, if a kid starts screaming in a restaurant, the parents have exactly two minutes to silence their child or remove them from the room before I do it for them.

The same principle can be applied to bad drivers or drivers that think everybody on the block wants to hear their music. They get one warning, and if they don't comply, they get run off the road.

I'd love to see you try that on my car whilst i'm blasting machine head. The great thing about old Fords is they are indestructible.

As for kids, they seem to be quiet and get scared at first sight of me, even if i'm not looking back at them, as do most adults and young teenagers.

I have spanked my nieces and nephews as well as the unruly and disrespectful children of friends as well. Sometimes it's actually appreciated, and some times it's not. My position is: "If you can't control your children I will." If you don't want little Timmy to get a sway on the behind, you better make darn sure he isn't throwing rocks at my truck while it's parked in my driveway.

Sometimes I tend to speak to the kids as if they were adults. "Excuse me - could you please not run in here, there's lots of people around. Thank you." It doesn't always work, but they can't say they haven't been warned if you have to bring out the heavy artillery.

If the parents give me grief, that gives me the right to speak to them as if they were the children, since they obviously don't understand yet.

Roald Dahl once said that a good way to win the confidence of kids is to enter into a conspiracy with them against the adult world.

Timely subject. Our neighbor is a loud jock whose kids started leaving our gate wide open when their basketball or hockey puck flew into our back yard, or leaving sports gear in our side yard like trailer trash.

When it became a regular occurrence I spoke to the parents which has tempered things a bit. Speaking directly to the kids would have resulted in the parents getting a made-up story like "he was mean to us"...and no good can come of that. Talk to the parents, AND keep track of dates if you are dealing with a chronic problem...cuz many parents will make childish excuses such as "we weren't home". The nut does not fall far from the tree.

well heres a short story.. there were once kids throwing stones at my house when I was small.. .. about 12 years ago I'd say..I'm actually 16 now but anyways..my dad went out and shouted at them as you do..for throwing stones at the house *in a housing estate*
and the neighbor who was in his garden came out and defened the little Sh*ts...

i think thats the worst.. when someone takes the side of the person who is totally in the wrong.. soo infuriating!
