I don't think you understand the question. Tiny Desk is performed in front of the audience and no one pays for a ticket. The question here is would you pay for a ticket to watch a band perform, in a theater, but not in front of you. You see them walk out on stage in front of you but then they enter a box on stage, and you only see their performance on video screens.

Oh, I get it. Let's break this down - in the OP's scenario, you're watching a band perform on a video screen with events happening in a place, a setting and possibly a time where you're not. According to the OP's scenario, you aren't even sure that what you are watching is the band performing in that box at that time. Existential, man....

My point is that I can get the essentially the same experience by watching YouTube in the comfort of my home. Band Geeks is probably a better example than Tiny Desk, I'll give you that.

Right. The essential element of his scenario is that you do see the band come out in front of you, onto the stage, and enter 'the box'. For a lot of people, just being in the presence of their favorite band is worth money. That's what differentiates it from watching YouTube. Hence the question, would you pay $ for this?

Can you imagine selling tickets to sit in grandstands of a rehearsal studio lock-outs studio, (a few rehearsal rooms down a dingy hall, could be a row of bleachers in the parking lot of xyz rehearsal studio lock-out-row irl i.e. You go to the physical location, and watch them go in, but like at many stadiums that could hold the scale, have monitors outside during like games of their going one inside, or an entire environment (including the parking lot perhaps, broken down that fit into trailers and airplanes, to different places to have it re-assembled and the band can live as they usually do, and you get to see it happen irl, but not you get to see inside their private studio-lockouts except by video being played for you to see them doing them music, but you might be seeing a fake movie of them ,an d you're sold the idea that they're in the studio in front of you, doing what's being shown, but maybe they're not , and it's a modern milli vanilla , but they also might be rocking really hard, because they're home emotionally haha, and you see them go in there, so, maybe it works for everyone on some level, .. maybe not

In an effort to blur the 'performer/audience' schism, the musicians were placed in spots around the hall, allowing the audience to wonder in and around them. As the music was of an experimental/Sun Ra nature, coordination between the players was a minor consideration. Still very cool and provocative. Otherwise, any other time it's called 'Saturday at Guitar Center or NAMM'. Wasn't there an experiment where there was no PA, but everyone in the audience had Bluetooth headphones? Adds new meaning to the term "phoning it in". Don't forget Kraftwerk and their robots.

I quite like the Snarky Puppy Family Dinner concept - sitting amongst the band with headphones as a choice for a great level of musician to audience contact. Unfortunately it only allows for a smaller audience than would be normal at a concert.
